What Causes Depression Among Women

Researchers have clearly shown that women are more prone to depression than men are. Depression is a very negative emotional state that can influence the quality of life and how you live it. Its impact shows not only within the personality of the person suffering from it, but extends to other areas of life. Impact of depression extends to family and social relationships, marriage, career, self worth and sense of purpose respectively. Very severe cases can lead to morbidity and mortality.
Women show significantly different signs of depression than men. Each person has a different manner of displaying it, which makes it difficult to diagnose depression. Not every negative episode of life can be placed in this category. However, certain signs and symptoms that present themselves very frequently can indicate presence of depression.
Among women, these signs and symptoms include a depressed mood, loss of interest in regular activities that the person once enjoyed, feelings of guilt, helplessness and worthlessness, a decrease in the self esteem, suicidal thoughts and tendencies, sleeping problems, changes in weight and appetite, problems in concentration, crying spells, and tiredness and fatigue respectively.
Each of these symptoms may also take place due to some medical and physical illness and condition, or due to effect of a drug. Therefore, a proper assessment from a general practitioner or a psychologist is essential before any therapy is initiated.
Some of the main causes of depression among women include premenstrual problems, pregnancy and infertility, postpartum depression and perimenopause  and menopause respectively. On a psychological level, causes of depression can include negative thought patterns, stress and body image issues.
Identification of the cause of depression is the key to successful treatment. According to the issue, a more guided and focused therapy can be devised for the patient. however, on a regular level, where some phases of mild depression occur, here are some of the tips that can help reduce symptoms of depression.
